My Achey Breaky Heart

No, this post is not about Billy Ray.  Or Hannah Montana.  Or anything even remotely related to Disney.  (You can all breathe a sigh of relief.)

It’s about frustration.  Pain.  Sorrow.  The inability to alleviate suffering.  There are so many people that are suffering…

The millions of people that are impacted by the tragic earthquake/tsunami in Japan.

Orphans across the world, abandoned by their families, left to fend for themselves.

Villages without access to safe drinking water.

Children lying in hospital beds fighting for their lives.

The homeless man that begs at the corner, desperate for a dollar to buy food.

It’s everywhere.  In far away countries and right in your own backyard.

But what can I do?  How do you choose who to help?  It seems so futile.

So I try to forget the images in my head of abused women, starving children, and tsunami victims.  Because what good can it do to focus on the world’s suffering?  But I know that’s not the answer.

But what is the answer?

Great honest post. I have found that choosing 3 groups or causes and do what you can. It doesn't take much to make a difference. That is the irony. I think its the overwhelming feelings, that you describe, that keep many of us from just doing one thing. I would love to do a guest post (my first) to offer suggestions that I have done.

i don't have an answer, but it is good to keep in your mind. not all of us can contribute financially, but keeping aware and spreading the word can only help! xo, shari

so tough. hard to get involved from so far away. i like to find an organization that we can support, even if it's only a little. We support Doma INternational. My brother and sis in law travel with them to russia, ethiopia, etc and they really are doing some awesome things here in the states too.

one thing I did was find some companies to donate an item to giveaway and i ran a fundraiser. a great way to raise awareness to a cause you love!
