Meal Plan Monday {Plus Grocery Voyeur} ~ 8.29.11

Alright, I admit it.  I kinda like this whole bi-weekly shopping business.

The end of last week was a little rough.  We BARELY made it to Friday on the two gallons of milk I bought at Aldi on the 13th.  And we were also out of bread before I could make it to Schnucks.  But everything else seemed just about right.  We even had a little bit of produce left.

And last weekend without grocery shopping?  Was kinda nice although I had a hard time adjusting to not having to run any errands.  So instead of doing other productive things, I sat on the couch and watched a lot of Dora the Explorer with Allison.

This go round I also spaced out the shopping trips, which made it a lot less stressful.  I hit Aldi Friday night, the farmer’s market Saturday morning, and Schnucks Sunday evening.

Here’s my haul…

Aldi is always my Go To for the basics like milk and eggs.  Plus they have really great prices on canned goods and snack foods.  And the cantaloupe?  Was only $0.99!  And it was actually perfectly ripe…  And delicious.

I went to the farmer’s market to acquire peaches.  And left with all of this.  (The white bag is gala apples.)  And yes, that is another watermelon.  Because I don’t learn.

And lastly Schnucks, which is like Kroger for all you non-St. Louis folks.  See that tower of raspberries?  Yeah, they were $1 each.  *Score*

I think I may have gone a LITTLE overboard with the produce, but I’ll just have to be watchful that it doesn’t go bad before it can be consumed.  I froze half of the raspberries and I’m thinking some of the peaches are headed that way because they were already pretty ripe when I bought them.  But apples and grapes will last for a while even though they are usually the first to go.

Here’s the game plan…

Breakfasts:

  • Yogurt with fruit and granola
  • Bagels with cream cheese
  • Cereal Bars
  • Cold cereal

Lunches:

  • Sandwiches
  • Leftovers
  • Fruit

Dinners:

Monday:  Leftovers

Tuesday:  Deep Dish Pizza

Wednesday:  Pulled Pork Sandwiches, Baked Beans, Sweet Potato Fries

Thursday:  Dinner with Friends

Friday:  White Cheddar Mac ‘n Cheese, Peas

What does your week in food look like?

I enjoy only shopping twice a month! It makes it so much easier to keep track of what is in my fridge and pantry and where my dollars are going! I have an entry in my blog about our menu, and pictures of our groceries too!
