Food Waste Friday | Is it? Is it not?

If you’re new here, *most* Fridays I link up my food waste with The Frugal Girl in an effort to reduce my kitchen waste and save money.  Click here to visit other recovering food wasters!

I do my best to clean out the fridge before I go grocery shopping every other week.  Sometimes I succeed, others not so much.  But with my late start at work yesterday because of the snow, I had plenty of time to tidy up the house, throw in some laundry, and clean out the fridge.  (And even take photos!)

Only problem is I’m not entirely sure it’s waste.  It’s been in the back of the fridge for a while, so I assumed it was no longer good.  But it smelled pretty normal.  I wasn’t up for tasting it at 9:30 in the morning, so that will be the final test to be completed at a later date.  Hopefully not too long from now.  Because I have a tendency to wait and see, which doesn’t fair well for food because it will- at some point- go bad.  And if I wait long enough…  it will.  So, I’m counting this as food waste given the slight chance I have of actually mustering the courage to see if it’s still good.

What did you waste this week?

  1. If the broth has been opened, I wouldn’t chance it. I too suffer from the wait-and-see-syndrome. I don’t think I have every rescued anything after the wait-and-see test.

We had a lovely bout of food poisoning over the holidays so I am tending to err on the side of caution, too. Congrats on a good week!
